The Ebola virus and related Marburg virus:


  • are members of the Filovirus family
  • are pleomorphic (take on many forms)
  • are negative-sense RNA viruses
  • cause disease in humans and non-human primates
  • virus genome is 19 kb long
  • target monocytes and macrophages, crippling the body's immune response.
